Parish church news

The church community was uplifted by the packed church when we gave thanks for the wonderful example given in the life of Jill Lupton. John spoke warmly of her faith, love of the family and service to the Lympstone community. We will all miss the warmth of her welcome as she made all feel special to her.

PRODUCE STALL is starting, under the arch, on 21st July and continuing through until 15th September. Please help if you can with any donations of home-grown or baked produce for the stall. As always from 9.30am until sold out!

As part of the Jubilee celebrations Exeter Cathedral has organised a

MAJESTY FLOWER FESTIVAL

11th to 15th July daily, from 9am to 5pm and 6.30pm to 8.30pm (10am start on 11th and on Sunday 15th noon to 4pm only). £9 in advance £10 on the door, Students £3.50, 5 to 18. Why advertise an event outside Lympstone? It’s because Lympstone has some wonderful flower arrangers and they are among the three hundred flower arrangers taking part in the Cathedral event. So it is a fine opportunity to visit, possibly, the finest building in Devon to see thousands of flowers majestically displayed. (I’m told the flower order is about £20,000) They suggest allowing two hours to be able to have time to see all the displays. Schools are involved and there will be a marquee on the Cathedral Green for their work. (For more information about the schools’ part Google ‘phil creek schools flowers’). The last time the cathedral presented a flower festival was fifteen years ago. This event will be a wonderful experience.

SEA SUNDAY Service (11.30am Sunday 8th by the Sailing Club) is now a firmly fixed calendar event thanks to Rev’d Geoffrey Wrayford who, once again, will officiate with our Mission Community Rector James Hutchings speaking. The tide will be up this year so there may be movements in and out around the service but when asked Geoffrey said,” all part of the challenge!” By the time you read this it may have already happened but there’s just a chance the Herald may be out in time.

SUMMER BARBECUE All will be welcome to this new event to be held adjacent to the Youth Club hut at 12.30pm on Candy’s Field, Sunday 15th July.

FAIRTRADE The Diocese is very keen that all churches work towards being registered as a ‘Fairtrade Church.’ Anyone feeling able to take on this role in Lympstone should contact the PCC secretary, Jill Wilson (264753) in the first instance.

RIDE & STRIDE – Saturday 8th September. This is a great day out for people and families of all ages and can be made as relaxed or energetic as you prefer. We need three categories of volunteers for this year’s Ride and Stride event: Traditional Riders and Striders to ride or walk to their selection of local Churches – after securing sponsorship from family and friends, families to participate in a gentler ‘Treasure Hunt’ walking route from Woodbury back to Lympstone. (This is the event postponed from the Silver Jubilee weekend) and friendly faces to welcome the Riders and Striders to Lympstone Parish Church throughout the day with soft drinks and biscuits.

Your Church needs YOU to volunteer for at least one of the above categories!

Please put the date in your diary and look out for full details later in August.

Contact Basil Strickland on 01395 266935 or Basil.Strickland@gmail.com if you want more information in the meantime.

Also for September, Heather Stratford will be organising a coffee morning with stalls (including cakes and children’s activities) in aid of the Childrens’ Society on Saturday 8th September. See her notice elsewhere in this issue and please offer help in any way you feel able.

BUCKFAST ABBEY There will be a visit to the Abbey on Thursday 13th September leaving Exmouth at 1.15pm. The cost will be £10 per person and anyone may sign up on the list at the rear of the church. Contact Jill Wilson for details.

Advanced information that there will be a Newcomers’ Party on 22nd September for all who have joined the village community in the last three years. Details to follow on the welcome revival of this, once annual, event.

See the weekly pew sheets and notices under the arch for other information. The third Sunday family service after 9:30 breakfast will be held in both July and August.
