Robert Perry

On Friday 10th of October, we said our final goodbye to Robert at Lympstone Church with raised oars as a final tribute to him. Many of the old Lympstone Parish community would have remembered Robert as Scout Leader of 1st Lympstone scout group through the 1950s and 1960s and bell ringing captain in Lympstone Church. The legacy of Robert is carried on with many boys of my age through his great skill of passing his knowledge on of so many things including safe exploration, learning about and from nature, interpreting tides and weather, sailing, camping, swimming, hiking, climbing, caving, discipline, having fun, tying a knot, map and chart reading. Giving us a full mind set, real pride in our appearance and to represent Lympstone on many occasions in full complete uniform. He also gave us great pride in Queen and country. For me, and I am sure many others, feel that Robert was undoubtedly undervalued and underrated for the amount of time he spent organising 1st Lympstone Scouts.
It was with the same passion that he was Bellringing Captain in the Church which he organised in the same calm manner instructing us in the art of Bellringing and visiting many other belfries. I was very privileged to have known Robert and I would like to, on behalf of all the people who proudly knew him and had the pleasure to meet him, pass on my sincere condolences to all of the family.
