GARDEN CLUB
This year’s bumper plant sale and coffee morning, in aid of Hospiscare, must have broken all records and will last long in memories. When entering the hall one saw three sides lined with tables overflowing with plants, both ornamental and culinary, large and small. It was a truly spectacular sight. The queue to come in was long and soon as doors opened those manning the stalls were kept very busy all morning as buyers were keen to pick up many bargains. The refreshments of drinks and delicious home made cakes were enjoyed by many, using the opportunity for a sit down to catch up with friends. The raffle with many excellent prizes was popular too. The event raised £3,300 for Hospiscare and the following is a message from Toni Hiscocks, the Area Fundraiser:
“The community gets behind us every time and it is such a worthy cause. The money raised will help local families receive the care and support they need in and around Exmouth and Lympstone. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended , donated, volunteered and supported the event. Here are a couple examples of how the money could be spent: 24x 1hour home visits from Community; Specialist Nurse – £1,158.245; A special pump to administer pain.Relief – £1,500″ We join Toni in giving special thanks thanks to the volunteers and helpers who worked so hard behind the scenes organising the event, as well as to the many local growers who generously nurtured and donated plants for the sale. Without the growers, we simply wouldn’t be able to achieve such fantastic results. Their work helped create a brilliant event and raised an amazing amount of money.
Toni also expressed heartfelt thanks to Lympstone Garden Club for hosting the event and once again helping bring the community together in support of such an important local cause. The day was filled with warmth, generosity and community spirit and we hope everyone who attended went home smiling – and ready to get digging in their gardens.
The Garden Club’s next big event is the Annual Show which will be on Saturday afternoon 15th August in the village hall. A lovely occasion for people of all ages, 3-100+ yrs! Entry schedules will be available soon.
