Lymptone Station Bank

Nov 1, 2024

Many of you will have seen the progress we have made in clearing the bank. We still have some bramble roots to clear but after four months of hard work, we are almost there. We uncovered the old station steps, which has led to some villagers sharing memories of the old station building & GWR has resurfaced a messy area next to the bike racks, which looks much tidier. We have begun planting spring bulbs and perennials ready for next year, but it is a large area to cover. We are a small group of volunteers and it would be great if we could expand our numbers. We need volunteers who can help with pruning, planting and ongoing maintenance. You don’t need any horticultural knowledge, just a trowel or a pair of secateurs! Volunteers can give as much or as little time as they can. We usually work on the bank once a week for two hours. Some volunteers come most weeks, for others it may be an hour or so every couple of months – as the advert says “every little helps”.
If you are able to spare some time, please get in touch with me Also, I am looking for the following, but any donations of drought tolerant plants (nothing prickly) would be wonderful: Shrubs: Viburnum Tinus, Pittosporum Tenifolium, Hydrangeas Perennials: Solidago (Goldenrod) Sea Thrift, Achemilla mollis (Lady’s mantle), Japanese anemone, Lavender Munstead, trailing rosemary or any other Mediterranean / drought tolerant plants. Grasses: Any that are drought tolerant eg Molinia, Pennisetum, Pheasant Grass & Stipa gigantea
Thank you in anticipation of any support you can give.
