Do you want to make a difference in your community on your own terms? Looking for a volunteer role that fits around your family, work and lifestyle commitments?
If you have a full driving licence, are over 21, have at least two years’ driving experience and access to a vehicle, becoming a Devon Community Driver could be the perfect opportunity.
Devon Community Drivers, a partnership between Devon Communities Together and Devon Access to Services, is encouraging residents to become volunteer drivers and inviting Community Transport Schemes to join a new pilot programme aimed at attracting more volunteers.
Every year, volunteer drivers help thousands of people across Devon reach hospital appointments, healthcare services, shops, social groups and wellbeing activities. Last year alone, volunteers provided 106,561 journeys. For many people, especially in rural communities, this support is vital in helping them remain independent, healthy and connected.
Become a Volunteer Driver
Community Transport Schemes across Devon need more volunteer drivers to keep these essential services running. Whether you can help once a month or several times a week, every journey makes a difference. Volunteers choose when and where they drive, there is no minimum commitment, and mileage expenses are reimbursed. Volunteer driving is ideal for people who want to give something back, meet new people, gain experience, stay active in retirement, or support their community around work or other commitments.
Anyone aged 21 or over with at least two years’ driving experience can register their interest through a simple online form.

Community Transport Schemes – Join the Pilot
Could your Community Transport Scheme benefit from more volunteer drivers? Schemes across Devon are invited to join a pilot programme designed to develop a new approach to volunteer recruitment and retention. Participating schemes will help shape a model that will:
– Attract and retain more volunteers.
– Support the long-term sustainability of community transport services.
– Make volunteering more flexible and easier to manage.
– Improve access to health, wellbeing and community services in rural and coastal areas.
– Bring different generations together to reduce isolation and support rural mobility.
