Lympstone Entertainments are bringing two of the most famous English comedies to Robin and Judith Telfer’s woodland garden this summer, on the first Sunday and last Saturday of July.
Shakespeare’s shortest and most farcical play, The Comedy of Errors, will be performed by Cygnet Theatre on Sunday 7th July, beginning at 6pm.
As usual, the garden will be open an hour before the show, to enable everybody to have a picnic in the beautiful surroundings.
The production is once again by Amanda Knott, who has directed at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and who has been delighting our audiences with her classic productions for Cygnet for several years now. Although Cygnet is not currently training theatre students, they have lured several of their past stars back especially for this tour of Devon.
And then on Saturday 27th July we welcome for the first time The Pantaloons, the theatre company who specialise in open air productions of classic comedies. They are bringing their treatment of Oscar Wilde’s comic masterpiece The Importance of Being Earnest. This energetic and musical production is full of snappy new songs and frantically funny physical theatre, to give this famously witty and popular play a hilarious modern twist. And don’t forget to include cucumber sandwiches in your picnic!
