Parish Council meetings – new format

Parish Council meetings – new format

The Parish Council has decided to try a new way of working in order to try to achieve more for the Parish. Committees have been abandoned and instead, the Parish Council will meet twice each month. These meetings will be on the first and third Mondays of each month (unless this is a Bank Holiday). All meetings are open to the Public and each meeting will start with a Public session, when anyone can come along and speak about anything of interest in the Parish, good or bad. Any current planning applications will be dealt with next so that anyone who is interested in any development, including an applicant, can sit in the meeting and hear any comments.

Again, any visitors will be given the opportunity to speak or ask questions about any planning application.

The first meeting will receive reports from the Police, County and District Councillors and the Chairman. Other Parish Councillors can raise any matter for investigation and discussion at a later meeting.

The second meeting will focus on the nuts and bolts of the work of the Parish Council. The Parish Council has appointed ‘Champions’ to take the lead on some areas of business. The discussion at the second meeting will include discussion on any current matters on the following topics:

Affordable Housing – Cllr Bailey

Amenities – Cllr Acca

Burial Ground – Cllr Bailey

Communications

Environment – Cllr Eastley

Major Travel( including the Cycle Way) – Cllr Carter

Youth Club – Cllr Mrs Beatty

Projects

Gulliford cemetery – The Clerk

The Youth Club building – Cllr Mrs Beatty

The Toilets – Cllr Acca

Extension to car parking at the Village Hall – Cllr Acca

Parish Plan, LDF, The Localism Bill and A Neighbourhood Plan – Cllr Garratt

Cllr Rob Longhurst will take the lead on Planning applications.

The first meeting using this new style was held on Monday 6th June 2011 and appeared to be well managed and respected by all Councillors.

The meeting finished at 9.20 pm, which is earlier than usual. The next meeting, the second in the cycle, will be held at 7.30 pm on Monday 20th June 2011. Agendas for all meetings are posted on the Parish Notice Boards and on the website with accompanying reports
