Annual Cricket Match
The Annual Cricket Match comes to the fields of Harefield on Thursday 14th June, at 6pm, when the men (and women?) of the village take on the Gentlemen (and Ladies?) of St Peter’s School, in the annual Cricket Match. Twenty overs each, but rather more sedate than the professional 20/20 version.
Once again England Rugby International Tom Johnson has promised to perform, and to score even more runs than he did last year. The other stars are the Lympstone Training Band, a most popular accompaniment to many village events, who wil help create a festive atmosphere.
There is a Barbecue and a Licensed Bar, Sue Goddard’s legendary Ice Cream stall, the chance to bet on the total number of runs scored, and, of course, the incomparable view over the estuary, bathed in the evening sunshine of a midsummer’s day.
Bring your chairs or rugs, your families and your sunshades, and enjoy a scene of traditional village life. Entrance is free and parking is available.
Proceeds from the bar and barbecue, ice cream and raffle, will go to support the Friends of Lympstone Church, who organise this most enjoyable of annual occasions to raise funds for the upkeep of our 600 year old building.
