Extra, extra!! Read all about it !! A UNIQUE and exciting event this Friday evening! Friday, 8thApril 7.30pm Lympstone Village Hall
An English Oscar winner will be speaking live to members of Lympstone Film Society on Friday, after the showing of his film The Man in the Hat. Stephen Warbeck won his Oscar as a composer, writing the music for Shakespeare in Love, and this is his first film as a director and writer.
Ciaràn Hinds stars as the hat-wearer, who witnesses some murderous criminal activity and makes a quick escape in a Fiat 500, followed by five angry men in their Citroën Dyane. It is an utterly charming and unusual comedy, which takes us on a picturesque odyssey through the French countryside, the best Provençal driving holiday you’ve never had.
We had great trouble finding a licence to show this film, until Marj Brewer contacted the producers directly. They not only sorted a (very cheap) licence for us, they arranged for Stephen Warbeck to do a Question and Answer session with the Lympstone audience live from Marseilles, where he is attending a Film Festival (and perhaps dining on razor clams and rosé at an empty harbourside reataurant, which is where we first meet the man in the hat).
Don’t miss this exciting occasion and this brilliant film. It’s free to Film Society members and only £5 for everybody else. The bar opens at 6.45 pm on Friday evening, so come and drink a glass of rosé (razor clams not available) at the start of a most enjoyable evening.
Films start at 7.30pm. Doors open 6.45pm
