Lymp Ents: The Brodsky Quartet

September 4

LYMPSTONE ENTERTAINMENTS – Sunday 4 September  – Schubert’s Quintet in C for two cellos

Lympstone Entertainments is thrilled to announce that the world-renowned Brodsky Quartet are coming to Lympstone Church on Sunday 4th September to play one of the most loved pieces of classical music, Schubert’s Quintet in C major. The extra cellist will be Richard Tunnicliffe, whose solo recording of the Bach cello suites was chosen as one of the ‘best classical releases of 2012’.

The Schubert Quintet is in the top three most-selected choices on Desert Island Discs, and is generally regarded as the
greatest composition in all chamber music. Because it requires two cellists, it is not played in live performance as
often as it might be, and this is a rare and special opportunity to hear it in Devon, in the fine acoustic of Lympstone
Church.

The Brodskys, who are celebrating 50 years of playing and recording, are a group with a stellar reputation, and have
been hailed as “a cult string quartet” and “a genuine phenomenon”. As well as the classsical repertoire, they have
collaborated with such rock and pop figures as Björk, Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney. They are considered to be the no. 1 interpreters of Shostakovich, and their programme includes his Quartet no. 10, as well as Haydn’s Quartet 54, no. 2, with its wild gypsy-like fantasies in the adagio section
