What’s On

Lympstone Furry Dance

LYMPSTONE FURRY DANCE, A celebration of Lympstone Past & Present.
The dance traditionally celebrated the safe return of local fishermen from trading their fish for furs in Nova Scotia.
Imagine…. wives welcoming home their husbands from months away, the smiles on children’s faces seeing their fathers again. The anticipation, the stress & the worry of a community all eagerly waiting to be reunited & what a celebration it must have been, with music, dance, love, laughter & much merriment.
We now celebrate this wonderful tradition annually on the 1st Saturday in August, where Lympstone band play “The Floral Dance” throughout the village followed by local gentlemen in their finest Top Hats, Ladies in beautiful Cocktail dresses & not forgetting the plethora of wonderful fancy dress costumes.

The dance starts off by the Globe Inn and makes its way to the Saddlers Arms for refreshments before returning to the village.
Very sadly our much loved & longstanding Chairman Graham Wills resigned for personal reasons in 2021, this along with all the complications of Covid, means the last time we enjoyed this wonderful village tradition was in 2019, however….  Its 2022 & We’re Back!!!

Our new committee is focussed on our core belief:
Lympstone Furry Dance is the bringing together of Family, Friends & Community to celebrate our wonderful villages history Past, Present, & creating Future Memories!
