Fire in the village

Fire in the village

The Fire Service attended an incident in Lympstone village on Friday 7 August.

A number of hay bales were on fire in the National Trust owned field next to the pathway leading to the Railway bridge from Meeting Lane.

Fire crews were at the scene for 4 hours ensuring that the fire did not spread to the field, adjacent hedges and trees that surround the public footpath.

The Fire Service Officer in charge, Crew Manager Paul Furler, was keen to point out that the cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate and that being committed to deal with the incident could have caused delay should a more serious incident have occurred in the area.

He said that although it is hoped that this has been an isolated although deliberate incident it may be pertinent for the local community to be vigilant.
