Phil reaches the 5000 mile mark! He writes:
A brief update from Northern California. Day 32 of my travels and just passed 5,000 miles...so about a quarter of the way there I think. We, the bike and I, are holding up well. Only 2 days in a motel...and then because I’d forgotten to book campsites ahead on 4 and 5 of July, US holidays.
I’ve met lots of people, all with different and interesting stories to tell, and this for me has been one of the most rewarding aspects of travelling solo. You’re more likely to be approached by others if you’re on your own, not part of a group, or a perceived threat, but more an object of curiosity, probably a bit eccentric! The bike, with its UK plate, is often the starting point of conversations.
It’s been a very easy ride from Vancouver island south, biking slowly through Washington state, Oregon, and now California. Great roads and mostly great weather. A few photos attached. I don’t know how write a comment for a photo. Anyway the great majority were taken on the Pacific coast of Oregon. The video shows I’m getting more organised at ‘getting on the road’ each day! Looking forward to a break with my family in Santa Barbara in a few days time.
The trip is in aid of Exmouth and Lympstone Hospicecare.
Do you have any spare books?
A La Ronde have a second-hand book shop and urgently need books.
Can you help?
The Royal Marines Charity need volunteers! For the Commando Challenge in October. This is the first time they have opened it up to the local communities so it's a great way for either local companies or groups of friends and families to volunteer at a fun event.
They provide t-shirts for everyone volunteering along with refreshments and lunch.
